About The DMK RESCUE
This site was conceived out of a love of.... well.... FERRETS!
On September 16th, 2007, a small group of volunteers assisted Lori Sies and Dream House Shelter in a LARGE scale rescue to liberate hundreds of ferrets from a life of existing as livestock on a ferret farm, to entry into family life and domesticated ferret duties.
I am not in a position to discuss conditions at the farm, only my feelings of life as a ferret, confined to a small pen, not knowing the joy of running, frolicking, traversing through tubes, sleeping in a hammock, or eating N-bones. Prior to enriching my life with the thieving "carpet sharks", I might not have thought much about their confinement in such small prisons. I might have thought of them as just another "dirty animal". Little did I know before they took control of my home and everything "small" that I own, what personality and intelligence they possess. I am now saddened to think how many never knew the joy of chasing a toy across the floor or scrambling through a pair of pants legs left on the floor. They work their way into your heart with their demanding ways, the occasional nip to the back of the heel to gain your attention or the kiss on your cheek when you hold them close. Most of the time they are just "busy", seeking the next great adventure or kitchen cabinet to scale. However, they do take time out of their hectic schedule to let you know they love you and look forward to spending quality time with you each day. They truly are "one of the family".
My heart goes out to each and every volunteer who worked countless hours to ensure the health, safety and welfare of these magnificent animals. I was truly amazed at the collective efforts given to this cause, well after the initial rescue was labeled a success. Many volunteers continue to work today to guarantee a prosperous future for our little four footed friends. All of you are heroes in my eyes!
