Mitzy and Misty

Two Jills rescued from Furry O's in Harleysville, Pennsylvania

Our family adopted 2 jills from the DMK rescue from a local rescue here in Pennsylvania. (Furry O's in Harleysville) Our girls came to us, and they were the tiniest little ferrets we had ever seen. It was really sad to hear that they had probably already endured a breeding season. Poor little girls. Misty came to us and was fairly curious and playful. Mitzy however was terrified of everyone and drew blood when she bit me. She would cower and hide at the slightest noise. If one raised a hand even to play with her, she backed into the nearest place she could hide in and tried to bite. After 2 days, we had both girls war dancing. After 2 weeks, both girls come over to lap up Ferretone from a hand. Their progress is remarkable, and Mitzy has come a long way. She no longer hides from any of us. In fact, she comes out and war dances and then jumps up at my pant legs as if to say "Come on Mom, time to play!" . She allows me to pick her up and even kiss her on the head. She takes treats gently and nips like any other ferret now. I hate to say it, but she reminded me of a dog that had been beaten when she first arrived. I have no doubt in my mind that she was biting out of fear. Both girls are doing very well, and they love running in tubes, wrestling with Voodoo Vince (our big male ferret), and dancing like mad. It's so heartwarming to watch them grow friendlier and more secure here everyday. It is so AWESOME to be able to approach Mitzy and pick her up and see that she knows she'll never be hurt by any of us. Here are some pics of our newest additions to our family.

The first pic shows everyone taking a Ferretone break. Mitzy is the only one hiding (in the tube).

The second pic is both Mitzy and Misty charging over to me to get some Ferretone. What a difference!
